Community Engagement and Food Access Intern
The community engagement and food access intern is for someone interested in engaging our neighboring community to evaluate the effectiveness of our food access programs while also gathering information about food access and compiling resources to share. Some of the tasks will include: calling and communicating with neighbors about food access services, gauging the success of education and food literacy with our meal delivery program, creating and implementing questionnaires about needs, what works, what doesn’t, etc, and assisting with logistics of daily delivery as needed.
Training will be provided on-site to learn more about FoodChain and the programs and services we provide as well as our goals for community engagement and food access. The duration of the internship will be 1 semester. Learning outcomes for students will be increased knowledge and understanding of food security and direct food service programs, as well as an understanding of the local food system and food access in the Lexington community. This can be an in-person or remote internship. The student will work with and be supervised by our Volunteer and Delivery Coordinator, reviewing their work and hours on a weekly basis and collaborating on projects related to food access. This internship is for 20-40 hours per week, depending on the schedule and availability of the student. Students will have the opportunity to tie the internship directly to their field of study. This is an unpaid internship.
