Food Literacy Intern

This cooking program focuses on increasing kitchen confidence, discovering the seasonality of fruits and vegetables, and exploring personal food preferences through hands-on cooking classes geared toward youth. There are a variety of tracks this internship could take, including curriculum development, coordination of resources, and even facilitating lessons. This internship is ideal for someone in an education or outreach program. This internship will work with and be supervised by the Education and Outreach Director.

Training will be provided on-site to learn more about the Cook. Eat. Grow. program as well as other food literacy opportunities FoodChain offers. The training will cover the goals and objectives of food literacy at FoodChain, provide past recipes and curriculums for review, and cover the volunteer training we have provided in the past. The duration of the internship will be 1 semester (summer, fall, or spring). Learning outcomes for students will be an increased knowledge and understanding of the local food system and instruction in a non-traditional setting and techniques for working with children. This is an in-person internship. The student will work closely with and be supervised by the Director of Education and Outreach, reviewing their work and hours on a weekly basis and collaborating on development of summer Cook. Eat. Grow. classes. This internship is for 20-40 hours per week, depending on the schedule and availability of the student. Students will have the opportunity to tie the internship directly to their field of study- especially if it is education or dietetics/nutrition related. This is an unpaid internship.
