Power of Produce Kids Club coordinator

This summer program engages youth at the Lexington Farmers Market to learn about fresh food and agriculture as well as to purchase their own produce directly from farmers. An intern in this program will take full initiative by planning activities and taste tests (if more than 1 intern this will be a collaborative effort) and executing the program at Saturday, Sunday, and Wednesday Lexington Farmers Markets.

Training will be provided on-site to learn more about the Power of Produce Kids Club and be introduced to staff at the Lexington Farmers Market with whom we collaborate to provide this opportunity. Interns will have access to last year’s data- activities, tracking, surveys, etc. The training will cover the goals and objectives of the Power of Produce Kids Club. The duration of the internship will be 1 semester (summer, fall, or spring). Learning outcomes for students will be an increased knowledge and understanding of the local food system,  leadership and personal development in developing and leading lessons, and engagement and outreach with the Lexington community. This is an in-person internship. The student will work closely with and be supervised by the Director of Education and Outreach, reviewing their work and hours on a weekly basis and collaborating on the development of the POP club activities. This internship is for 40 hours per week, attending the Saturday and Sunday markets from 9-2pm and the Wednesday market from 3-6pm to run the POP kids club. Students will have the opportunity to tie the internship directly to their field of study- especially if it is education, agriculture, or dietetics/nutrition related. This is an unpaid internship.
