Housing Justice Intern
Activities
- Help staff and support community outreach, including presentations, tabling at community events, potential radio appearances, and distribution of flyers in locations where volunteer organizations and individuals can be recruited to support the ongoing efforts of the rental assistance program.
- Promote and make referrals to rental assistance programs and other resources provided by Legal Aid Program staff or KEJC Housing Justice attorneys.
- Field incoming housing-related inquiries by phone, web, and email and provide appropriate information, intake, or referral to rental assistance resources.
- Support tenants through harm reduction case management services both before and after their Court hearings, by connecting KEJC Housing clients with services including: rental assistance, other safety net programs like SNAP, WIC and KTAP, mental health care, legal aid representation, crisis intervention, and other appropriate community referrals.
- Meet with people who are being evicted or who are in danger of eviction to assess their needs and provide them with information about housing resources. Assist the Project Manager with providing case management services while proceeding through Court.
- Assist Kentucky Equal Justice Center’s Director, Housing Justice Attorney, and Project Manager with data collection for project activities and outcomes.
- Assist the Project Manager in monthly Lexington Eviction Prevention Coalition meetings and updating resource lists regularly.
- Reports directly to Project Manager.
- Hybrid work format. Will be required to Attend eviction court minimum 2 days per week, 8:30-10:30 am. Occasional half days on Saturdays for group canvassing. Hours are flexible.
