Position Summary

The UK Opera Theatre Production Intern supports performance, production, and communications activities for a university-based professional opera program. This hands-on internship is ideal for students interested in music, live performance production, and strategic communication. The intern will work closely with the Program Coordinator, Technical Production Manager, and faculty leadership on performances, special events, and ensemble support.

Key Responsibilities

Production & Performance Support

  • Assist with production needs for Grand Night for Singing, UK Opera Theatre’s annual musical theatre revue.
    • Support the Technical Production Manager with scenery, props, costumes, lighting, and audio as needed/in alignment with candidate’s skills and interests.
    • Serve in a run crew capacity as needed, opportunities including assistant stage management, wardrobe, or audio support in alignment with candidate’s skills and interests.
    • Assist with preparation and organization of music materials for Grand Night for Singing.

Communications & Social Media

  • Manage UK Opera Theatre social media platforms as directed by the Program Coordinator.
  • Create and schedule content, assist with engagement, and support basic reporting.
  • Provide communications support for the American Spiritual Ensemble as needed, including social media and contributions to annual reports.

Special Projects

  • Potential to support Dr. McCorvey in preparation for the Bay View Music Festival.
  • Possible travel to the Bay View Music Festival (Michigan) to provide on-site support, depending on program needs and availability.

Qualifications

Required

  • Interest in music, theatre, or arts production
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Professionalism in rehearsal and performance environments

Preferred

  • Interest in strategic communication or arts marketing
  • Familiarity with backstage or technical theatre work
  • Availability for evenings and weekends during performances

Learning Outcomes

  • Practical experience in live performance production
  • Exposure to arts administration and communications
  • Collaboration with faculty, staff, and student artists in a professional rehearsal environment
